New Zealand –
South Island – Christchurch – Mt Cook - Queenstown – Arrowtown – Wanaka –
Fox Glacier - Blenheim From Wanaka, you can opt to do some ice-rock climbing at
Franz Josef or further at Fox Glacier. My suggestion would be to do the climbing at Franz Josef then drive for an hour or so and have a good rest at Fox Glacier.
Franz Josef is a rather small town. If you decide not to do any ice-rock climbing there are a few interesting trails to follow. And after you are tired from all the adventuring, do visit the
Glacier Hot Pools for some needed relaxation.
An hour drive away, you will definitely hit Fox Glacier (another small town surrounded by icy mountains). A good place to stay is the Mt Cook View Motel.
The host is truly outstanding. It is as though you are doing a farm stay because you literally woke up facing a farm filled with cows. Outstanding!
Then it is literally a long drive to Westport. It is not such a bad drive because on your left is the magnificient ocean stretching for miles/km all the way to Westport. You should have an overnight there before driving the next day to Blenheim which will take another couple of hours.
If you fancy kebabs, then upon reaching Blenheim, drive to the town centre in which along Scott St, you will find a store that sell excellent kebabs.
Then if you fancy some cheap shopping, just a few streets away is a shop that sells things at ridiculously low prices. I presume they must be made in China products – nonetheless the quality is rather good.
If you need to stay in Blenheim instead of driving off to Picton which is just 45 minutes away, then do not hesitate to choose Brydan on Rose as suitable place for your accomodation. The hosts, the amenities and its locations are just perfect.
